Do We See What He Sees?

In the pre-dawn darkness I stand on my deck gazing up at the stars in amazement.

It’s summertime as I write this and with its long days and tumultuous weather, my stargazing has been minimal.

But this morning when I peeked out the window, I knew I had to step outside and fill up on as much of God’s handiwork as possible before starting my day.

Every single day since the beginning of time God has displayed His majesty through the awe and wonder of His creation.  He makes the sun rise, the flowers bloom, the rivers flow, and the oceans teem with creatures undiscovered.

He baffles the mind with galaxies, stars, and constellations – a celestial moving picture show through the year.  He allows us to uncover jaw dropping scientific discoveries yet gently allows the annual migration of delicate hummingbirds and butterflies just to name a few.

I thought about this as we were trying to sell our house recently.

Time and time again the house had been shown but not chosen.

With each rejection, my spirit slumped, disappointed our best was not “good enough”.

With each scheduled showing, a small spark was lit with hopeful expectation should we receive an accepted offer on the house.

Prior to each showing, the house would be thoroughly cleaned, decluttered, and presented at it’s very best in an attempt to lure the potential buyer to make an offer.

It struck me, isn’t that what the Lord does with us?

Lavishing us day after day, He dazzles us with miracles.  He woos us with beauty and light, love and laughter, and the ultimate gift His Son Jesus Christ, our Savior.  None of us deserve such treasure.  Yet still some of us forget or even outright deny His existence.

He gave His all, and still gives, His very best to us - a fickle and unfaithful people.

A people completely underserving of His love and affections.

He is so far above us Psalm 113:6 says He stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth and according to Isaiah 40:22 we are mere grasshoppers, yet His loving kindness prevails.

I wondered this as I leaned against the wall of my house processing yet another rejection and trying not to take it personal.

How must we make God feel when we overlook the beauty of a waterfall, an unexpected gift that makes us feel seen and heard or the miracle that is life itself and still say “not interested”?  That is personal.

Today, I’m humbled and convicted - again.  I want to always see Him and His goodness.  To bask in His excessive generosity and beauty and push away the grumbling and complaining easily filling my head ready to exit my mouth proclaiming “your best is not good enough”.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to always “see” You.  Whether it be in nature, the eyes of a friend, a warm embrace, or the Words of Scripture – and to share You with others.  I confess it is easier to murmur and complain than thank and praise You at times.  Help me to always acknowledge You as my Lord God and King and lift You up to Your rightful place in my life.  I bring nothing to the table, You bring everything.  I bow before You as the Righteous One who has saved me from the dominion of darkness by the blood of Your Son Jesus.  Thank you for loving me this day and always.
