A Truth to Ponder Every Month Series - Part 3
March
When we march, we move. We think of action – even the action of our world trying to burst forth after winter’s hibernation.
In the month of March, March Madness and St. Patrick’s Day may come to mind and both of those are based on action.
While I know next to nothing about March Madness, I do know St. Patrick acted.
He was born in Britain and taken captive at age 16 by Irish raiders and enslaved for six years before escaping and returning to Britain ( he wasn’t even Irish!).
He had a dream to return to Ireland as a missionary where he used local customs and rituals to teach Christianity to the Irish people.
This again signifies God reaching out to us as we saw in previous months’ celebrations.
He loved the people of Ireland so much, He called Patrick to be His hands, feet, and mouthpiece to share the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. Patrick accepted the calling and joined God in His work of saving people from themselves.
And God does this for all people. His gift of eternal salvation is for all who confess and repent of their sin and accept Him as their Lord and Savior. He graciously picks us up where we have fallen, restores us, and gives us new birth through Jesus resurrection (1 Peter 1:3).
Again, we need to act. He stands at the door knocking, we simply need to open the door. He is a gentleman and won’t force His way into our hearts (Revelation 3:20)!
Like Patrick, we are then able to act and do good and share the good news with others to help make disciples of all men (Acts 10:38, Matthew 28:19).
But was all this just luck? Did Patrick have a collection of four-leaf clovers in his pocket assisting him in his ministry?
As believers, we know there is no such thing as luck or lucky charms. So while we may sigh “that was lucky” or cross our fingers when we hope for something, these actions have no place in our lives and diminish the power of our all-knowing, all powerful Creator God.
The Power
The great news is we don’t have to “wish” for the power to march forward. God graciously enables us to do all He has planned for us by the power of His Spirit living inside us (1 Corinthians 12: 4-7, Ephesians 2:10)).
There are many Scriptures reminding us we are not alone. Here are a few:
Ephesians 2:8 says we have been saved by grace through faith and this is not of ourselves, but a gift from God. Even our faith is given to us to believe!
And
Philippians 2:13 tells us it is God who works in us “to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”
This month, I want to encourage each of us to look at the good works God has for us with excitement. They may not be easy, but we know God will be doing the heavy lifting.
We just have to show up ready to March 😊.
Where do you feel God is calling you to join Him in His work?
