A Truth to Ponder Every Month Series - Part 4

April - New Life

Spring.  We experience a rebirth as the earth comes alive again.  As the temperatures grow warmer and flowers start to bud, we feel as if we are coming out of our cocoon to breathe again.

We inhale the fresh air and enjoy a little more sunshine knowing warmer days are ahead when we can once again embrace the out of doors.

It is the same way with our Christian life here on earth.  When we accept Jesus as Savior and are raised to new life with Him, we start our eternal life now with the hopeful expectation of a perfect world on the horizon – heaven.

Before Jesus we felt the darkness of being cold and alone in the world – weighed heavy and damp with the burden of our sin and the sin around us, not unlike a seed in the ground through winter.

Then we discover Jesus.  He was tortured so we could be embraced.  The perfect Lamb of God was humiliated so we could be lifted up. He was despised so we could be wholeheartedly accepted.  And not after we cleaned up, but just as we are, right now.

...For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
— Jeremiah 31:34

He loves the sinner, not the sin.  When we confess and repent, the “weeds” of our sin are tossed out for good and He remembers them no more (Jeremiah 31:34, Psalm 103:12).

Just as that seed germinates and starts to push through the dark soil to make it’s way to the surface the darkness flees and we break through and are bathed in the light of the Son when we accept Jesus as our Savior.

As the earth bursts forth with new life, we too burst forth into a new life with Christ.

Gone is the darkness, gone is the weight of sin, gone is fear of condemnation (Romans 8:1).

As 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us if we are in Christ, we are a new creation, the old has gone and new has come!

As we marvel at the budding flowers, green grass, and warmth on our faces this Spring may we remember James tells us every good and perfect gift comes from the Lord (1:17).

We only rejoice in the beauty of the reviving earth due to God’s immensely generous outstretched hand.

And we only receive new life in Christ by the ultimate sacrifice of His outstretched arms.

As we celebrate Easter in a few weeks, may we give God the glory and praise not only for the seasonal renewing of the earth, but for Jesus once for all sacrifice to give us eternal new life in Christ.

What is your favorite part of Spring??
