From Poverty to Royalty

You are royalty.

Do you believe it?

You are royalty.

Do you believe it?

If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, He has saved you from eternal separation from Him and elevated you to royal status as a child of the King.

While we may not feel like royalty, but we are.

I wonder if Joseph felt this way.  Remember him?  One of Jacob’s sons who was sold into slavery as a teen by his older brothers?

He then ended up a prisoner in a filthy dungeon.

And Joseph's master took him and put him into the prison, the place where the king's prisoners were confined, and he was there in prison. (Genesis 39:20 ESV)

But God had other plans for him.

You shall be over my house, and all my people shall order themselves as you command.  Only as regards the throne will I be greater than you.” (Genesis 41:40 ESV)

This is our story as well

God takes us on a rags to riches story.  And who doesn’t love a rags to riches story?

Before meeting Jesus, each of us is just a dirty, poor beggar lost in our sin with no hope.  We cannot save ourselves and are a slave to fleshly desires, living in darkness and squaller.

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23 ESV)

It is here we come to the end of ourselves and realize our need for a Savior.  That we cannot do it alone and the life we are living is dead and empty - not the perfection we were made for.

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.  (Ephesians 2: 1-2 NIV)

Then we meet Jesus

Even though we deserve death, He picks us up and washes us clean.  He lifts us up out of the pit and into the light and makes us white as snow.

“Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord:  though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. (Isaiah 1:18 ESV)

We can scarcely believe it!

Knowing we deserve punishment for our sin, we bask in the knowledge we are chosen, forgiven, and loved.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9 ESV)

We are lifted up on eagles’ wings to live life with Him and in His power.

We may not feel it, but it is true!

So, join me in remembering the truth; in Jesus we are elevated to royalty and go from rags to eternal riches, never to be the same again.
