God’s Goodness

The beauty of this current season makes my heart sing.  The blue skies, warmer temperatures, flowers blooming, birds singing, etc. make me want to wallow in the verdant earth below.

In the beginning, everything was perfect.  God blessed Adam and Eve with a perfect world.  Every single little detail was absolutely perfect.  And they botched it.  They messed up (just as I would have, I’m sure).  But God did not throw in the towel, throw them out of the garden and scrap creation.  He did only what needed to be done for their good.

In His mercy and kindness, He banned them from the garden so they would be eligible for restoration and salvation (Genesis 3:22-23).

So, how can some look around and believe there is no God?  He tells us man is without excuse for his unbelief:

For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.  For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. (Ro. 1:19-20 ESV)

Psalm 104 declares the greatness of God, His creation, and all He has given us.

It is easy for us to take it all for granted.  The order by which everything works was set in place from Creation so we must think “backwards” – in what ifs - to appreciate the everyday miracles around us.

What if the sun did not rise and set every day?  What would happen if the sun were just a little further away from earth or a little closer?  We would burn up or freeze to death.  Our atmosphere is just right for us to breath the air – just the right amount of nitrogen to oxygen.  But what if it weren’t and we had to where air tanks every time we stepped out of our houses?

What if we had to feed all living creatures, everything from animals to unseen microbes, day in and day out, year after year to balance our delicate ecosystem instead of it thriving “on its own”?

What if we had to go through some elaborate process for our bodies to turn food into energy every time we ate?  Or eating was a wearying daily task instead of a pleasurable experience?

What if matter didn’t hold together and we had to be on the lookout for random explosions?

And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. (Colossians 1: 17 ESV)

What if?...

The sun, moon, oceans, fields, seasons, humans, animals, etc. are all created and sustained by God.

After the fall, God could have wiped the slate clean and given us the bare minimum for life.  No beauty, no color, no laughter, etc.  But He didn’t.  His love is so great, He only disciplined man for our good, and left the lion’s share of His amazing creation for us to enjoy.

As you go about your day today, thank God for His Divine Design in the seen and unseen all around you.

Where are you amazed by God in your everyday life?
