Death to Lazy Worship
Technology is great, isn’t it? We get to keep up with loved ones, continue our schooling, and listen and watch all kinds of wonderful biblical teaching at any time and virtually anywhere. We even get to “go to church” online from the comfort of our own living rooms. But are really actively participating in worship or just merely observing? I love corporate worship and miss it when I can’t physically go to church. I feel as if I’m experiencing a little bit of heaven as I join voices with my fellow believers in praise to God. So, when we are “attending” church from home, I stand and worship just as I would in any other worship gathering.
Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous;
it is fitting for the upright to praise him.
Praise the Lord with the harp;
make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.
Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully, and shout for joy. (Ps. 33: 1-3 NIV)
My family thinks I’m nuts. My wet-blanket co-worshippers sit (or lay) idly by and may sing, may not, but definitely not stand. I thought we were the only dud family, but one of my kids commiserated with a friend about their “weird moms” who stand while worshipping at home while everyone else takes the observation deck.
Sad, isn’t it? The God of the Universe, who created heaven and earth, everything for our enjoyment, and provided a Savior in His Son Jesus Christ for each of us (not that we did anything to deserve any of these blessings) and we’re not going to stand and worship Him because we don’t feel like getting up off the couch? Huh…
Does that bother you, or is it just me? It is our human tendency to be lazy. I have a propensity for laziness… or a run around like a chicken with my head cut off. Extremes I do very well 😉.
But how beautiful the above Scripture. How worthy He is to be praised! And the real kick is it benefits us as well making us feel happy, light, peaceful - even euphoric – when we praise Him. Especially with our brothers and sisters in Christ! A win-win!
So, let’s give God the praise due His Name no matter where we are.
How about your family? Any worship enhancing tips for church at home?
